Organized in 1837, Incorporated as a City in 1962
Walker Township was organized December 30, 1837, the second township formed in Kent County, covering all land north of the Grand River; Samuel and Lydia White were its first settlers that year. Renewed annexation pressure on the township's industrial areas led to a November 8, 1962 incorporation vote that created the City of Walker.
