Wyoming Township, organized back in 1848 and named for Wyoming County, New York, only became its own city in 1959, when residents incorporated specifically to resist annexation by Grand Rapids and Grandville. The years immediately before and after that vote saw a concentrated run of home construction that filled in Godwin Heights, Home Acres, and Rogers Heights largely within a single generation.
